Southern
Idaho Working Dog Association
was founded in 1984.
To
date, the club has trained member dogs to over 250 working titles, including
CD, BH, Schutzhund
1, 2, and 3, FH (advanced tracking title), and AD's (endurance test).
Several different breeds from Labrador Retrievers to Boston Terriers, as
well as the more popular working breeds such as German Shepherds,
Dobermans, and Rottweilers have obtained these titles.
The club has
helped to certify working police dogs as well as therapy dogs and Canine
Good Citizens.
The
purpose of the club is to promote a well-trained working dog, that is also a
good representative in the community. Our primary focus is obedience
and tracking, however we also support those interested in advanced training
such as Schutzhund. Another goal is training and titling our dogs for conformation exhibition, and other dog
sport endeavors, such as agility. The club does not train dogs for
personal protection work.
Dogs must be of sound mind and body for
any working endeavor. The dogs must first pass a temperament test before they are eligible to
pass any other title.
We
are nationally affiliated with the
German Shepherd Dog Club of America -WDA,
however we welcome all breeds. The GSDCA~WDA is the
official FCI recognized breed organization in the United States. The WDA also has a breed survey and registration
program for it's members.
It is our belief that each individual’s dog or dogs are equally important
regardless of breed, pedigree, ability, appearance, or individual goals.
We also believe that our most important goal is the fun and enjoyment we can
experience from each other and from our dogs.
Please
feel free to contact one of our officers for more information. We
gladly encourage new membership, and are actively seeking others to join
with us in our dog training hobby!
